The main focus of the State Resource Center is to extend Academic and Technical support to Literacy and Continuing Education programmes.It serves as nodal agency for developing resource materials and training field functionaries in the areas of Literacy and Continuing Education.
SRC, Tamil Nadu is a forefront organization in creating synergy in the implementation of the Literacy and Continuing Education Programmes in the State. SRC has so far published more than 600 materials on Literacy, Adult & Continuing Education, Population Education, Health, Gender, Women Empowerment, Electoral Literacy, Legal Literacy, Financial Literacy, Disaster Management and Social, Economical developments etc.
SRC, Tamil Nadu also serves as a Research Institute, affiliated to the University of Madras for awarding Ph.D.degrees.
SRC, Tamil Nadu being a pioneer and unique Institution by itself in the field of Literacy and Adult & Continuing Education to provide resource support to achieve the goal set by the National Literacy Mission Authority (NLMA), Govt. of India.
The Saakshar Bharat (SB) Programme was launched in 2009 by the President of India. In Tamil Nadu, SB programme was implemented by State Literacy Mission Authority (SLMA) in five districts (Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Perambalur and Ariyalur), in 2009 - 2010. Four more districts (Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Tiruppur and Krishnagiri) were added between 2010 - 2014.
